Pandemic 2 coughs, sneezes and splutters its way onto Mousebreaker

As a rule, I tend to steer clear of games that require you to watch a tutorial video before you have the faintest idea what’s going on, but I’ll make an exception for Pandemic 2, because it’s a unique and addictive take on the strategy genre.

Y’see, rather than commanding armies or spaceships as you would in your average strategy game, in this one you’ll be developing a microbe. You pick a parasite, virus or bacteria and then set about trying to wipe out the entire population of the globe.

Some countries will be easier to topple than others – climate, medical facilities and government action will either prevent or help the spread – you’ll just need to adapt your microbe to succeed in different climates. Inducing vomiting will help your disease spread more easily, but at the price of being very easy to spot and diagnose.

If you can get past the daunting instructions and inherent creepiness of trying to wipe out the world’s population, you’ll find an engaging, addictive and even educational (yikes) game that rewards repeat plays.
