Tuesday Tips… Being One Episode 1: Escape the Lab
The Being One series is over a year old now, but it’s still a superb, atmospheric adventure gaming romp. A must play for folks who missed it first time around. There’s a video walkthrough elsewhere on the site, but for those that prefer text (or just want to do a search for the bit they’re stuck on to avoid spoilers, here’s the walkthrough in text)…

So, you start off in the Vat… here’s what you need to do to escape:
1) Click on each wire to connect the switch.
2) There are locks on the left and right of the screen. Click both.
3) Now click on the switch to exit the vat.
4) Pick up the mobile phone on the floor.
5) Click the forward arrow to get up, and again to look around.
6) You’ll now be facing a computer desk. To the right of the screen is a test tube – pick it up.
7) Open the top drawer and read the paper – from this you’ll learn the password is “angel”.
8 ) Click on the red mug to move it out of the way – you’ll find a key underneath.
9) Open the bottom drawer with the key. You’ll find another test tube inside, so take that too.
10) Behind the chair at the back of the room is a dustbin – you’ll find another test tube inside. After fishing it out press the right arrow to turn back to your vat.
11) Test tube number 4 is underneath the words “no escape” in the bottom left hand corner of the screen – grab it
12) There’s a trip switch to the left of the vat – click it.
13) Click on the handle of the trip switch until it moves all the way over to “on”. The lights on the switch will turn green.
14) On the right of the vat is a map, which you should click to get the layout of the lab. Above the map is a code – 5921. Now turn right.
15) Open the doors on the bottom of the cabinet to grab test tube number 5. Click on the right arrow labeled Science Equipment.
16) Test tube number 6 is on the second shelf down.
17) Left of the fire extinguisher is another trip switch. Turn it on in the same way you did last time. Turn left.
18) To the right of the doors there are 3 card readers. You’ll need all three to escape. To the left of the doors is another trip switch – click it and turn in on in the way you should be getting good at! Turn left again.
19) On the floor to the right of the door labeled “specimen 2″ is test tube number 7, so grab that.
20) Each door has a report next to them. Read them all in turn, and the second one will give you the door code 7782. Turn left again.
21) Back in the corridor again. On your right below the word “abomination” is a small cupboard. Inside you’ll find the final test tube sample! Turn left again, to return to the Science Equipment room.
22) Click on the sample analyser and click on the green triangle to send the samples to the computer. Return to the computer by going back to theĀ corridorĀ and to the left.
23) Log in to the computer (password is “angel”, remember) and read the reports it shows. Specimen 3 will give you a code of “1259″. Turn left and head back down the corridor to the specimens.
24) Click keypad 1 and type “5921″ in. Click ok, and Door 1 will open. Unplug the power cable on the upper right of the vat. Your phone will tell you you have received the green access card.
25) Click keypad 2 and type “7782″ and click ok.
26) Unplug specimen 2. Receive the red access card when you return.
27) Click keypad 3 – this time the code is “1259″. Click ok.
28) Unplug specimen 3 and receive the blue access card. Head back down the corridor to the computer.
29) Log in to the computer and click on “activate the door”. Assuming everything’s gone to plan, the computer will say “door activated”. Let’s go and check on that – turn left and head down the hall to the exit doors…
30) The doors are now open – go through the doors and exit the lab.
31) But it’s no that simple is it? Bloody great mech. Great. To the right are some machines – on the side of the machines is a red switch just above a yellow lightning sign – click it.
32) After clicking, turn the 4 wheels on the walls as quickly as possible. If you do it quickly enough, the sprinklers will come on and short-circuit the mech.
33) Move forwards to freedom, and episode 2…
To be continued!
