Weekender… Top 5 Topical Games
We love our topical games on Mousebreaker – quick diversions that capture the mood of whatever news story is currently grabbing the headlines. Typically they’re quickly made and nothing like as deep as our big hitters, but occasionally some of them run and run as successful games in their own right. So here’s our five favourites from the last few years!

Before Cristiano Ronaldo engineered himself a move away from Manchester United to Real Madrid there was two summers running where we had the whole will he-won’t he saga. In this gaming tie in, players had to fire Cristiano across Europe using a makeshift catapult to his perfect move. Pretty difficult to get him all the way, but try, try and try again.

Run, run, run, run, run, stamp, sliiiiiiiiiiiiiide, avoid bottles. That was broadly Adebayor’s game plan in that fateful match between Arsenal and Manchester City last season, and that’s the premise of the game of the game plan. A very simple game with retro Sensible Soccer style visuals, it’s surprisingly moreish despite its incredibly simple game mechanics.
Zombie Election: Vote for Brains

Just before the General Election in May, we unleashed another of our zombie sports games, albeit this time with a political twist. Undead versions of Nick Clegg, Gordon Brown and David Cameron approach the best of BBC politics journalism (a pitching Jeremy Paxman and batting David Dimbleby), and it’s up to the dynamic duo to force them back with well placed shots…
Jedward X Factor Vote Grabber: Grimes Against Humanity

To be completely honest, we kind of expected people to be going “who?” when mentioning this game almost a year after it first appeared, but somehow the, um, music sensations have held on. On the bright side, this makes the game asĀ relevantĀ as ever, but on the negative side… oh just fill in that sentence yourself. Anyway, it’s a fun little see saw game where you have to keep the twins bouncing to pick up the votes. All good, clean, fun – until they fall to a painful, bloody death, that is.

Finally there was our Fred ‘The Shred’ Goodwin game – the RBS Chief Executive who took a whopping pension, while many others in the financial crisis lost their jobs and became homeless. In this game, you take the money back – catch as many of the bills as they flash up on screen and head for the high score!
…And that’s it! Have a good headline free weekend, y’all…
