Ultimate Football Management Returns for 2013

One of the most common questions I’m asked in the comments here (other than ‘how the hell did you get so successful, devilishly handsome and generally awesome?’) is “when is Ultimate Football Management 12-13 coming out?” I’ve been pointing people to our ‘upcoming sequels’ page of the blog for a little while, which helpfully said ‘Early February’. Well, we’ve kept that promise: it’s out today!

So, what’s new? Well a load of things under the bonnet, and a bunch of things you asked for (injuries are less frequent, stamina goes down slower), but the most obvious changes are that we’ve added the German and Italian leagues, and bigger players will now turn down smaller clubs.

We’ll be updating the game soon to include a Spanish translation too, but as I’m writing this in English, I’m guessing you don’t much care either way about that if you’re reading this.

Anyway, enjoy!

  1. YES! Finally! Played it too, and a great game. And the only thing left to make my life perfect is JFG 5!

  2. Boring, because you only earn money and you can buy everyone ….

  3. The game itself is ok but I really think that the player ratings aren’t really accurate. For example Borrusia Dortmund has great players as Götze and Reus but these are rated worse than Valdés, who isn’t worth 9 stars. So that can be a point of discussion/improvement.

  4. As you know I’m a big fan of this game and I really enjoy it. Only thing I don’t like other then not having Derby in it is the fact that a player gets injured like every single game. Otherwise I love it

  5. All the more reason to hope Derby get promoted soon, Isaac! The injuries should be far less frequent in this version (we acknowledge that was a mistake in the last one – designed to try and make what’s quite an easy game a bit harder, but it went too far the other way).

  6. Why is Curtis Davies in the Arsenal squad?

  7. It doesn’t save my game!!! You start play then you quit the game and your game is lost! What do i do?? Please help me i’ve lost ALL my progress… i dont want to play and lose everything again…

  8. I do agree Alan!! Maybe next year you could have a easy medium hard setting. Which makes transfer more stricter and injuries more frequent

  9. Great Game! But Daniel Díaz- Atlético de Madrid has 112 years… Sorry for my english, im uruguayan :/

  10. as much as it is an enjoyable game, i have two issues. One is that loading is way too long. I understand there is a lot to load, but it becomes boring after waiting ages. Secondly, i would have hoped there were changes to the actual game itself. For example when you play a match, there seems no difference to the older one. In one word, dissapointing

  11. I really love this series of games, and the new one just as much as the old one. I just have one complaint to point out: there seem to be a couple of problems with the 1-million pound signings that come up each year. First, many times the players don’t ever actually get assigned a value, even after several years with the club. So you end up, for instance, with a 10-star midfielder valued at 0. Second, these players end up duplicated, so that a player is listed both on my club and at a rival club. So I ended up making Schalke an extremely good club when they had three players in common with my club!

  12. Right, lots to reply to:

Johnny575 (and anyone else with save issues): http://blog.mousebreaker.com/2012/04/help-my-mousebreaker-game-wont-save/

Cameron: Sorry you don’t think it’s a big enough step up from the last one, but the trouble is that what you’re asking for is totally incompatible. If you want the gave to advance, load times are going to increase. As for what’s new, we thought that doubling the number of leagues, adding a system where players will turn down transfers and bringing in real youth players were some pretty big advances.

Cybil: Thanks for the bug report, we’ll look into it.

  13. Thanks a lot AM i can now save my game. There is a weird bug: i ‘ve bought a player and this player is playing in my club and in a rival club… the same player! I want to report another bug too: some of my players if selected with the mouse says they belong to another club but they are in my club! Please fix this bugs they ruins the game…

  14. I want Jumpers For Goalposts 5.

  15. Overall, the game is fun and I have not encounter any problems. Just have a small feedback. Some players deserve a higher rating and some are overrated.

  16. Hello Alan,

I am a huge fan of this game. It’s wonderful how you guys came up with the concept and put it out as a free game. I just have a few comments/suggestions I wanted to share:

I have noticed that the computer-controlled teams always set their line-ups with positional eligibility in mind, at the expense of actual skills (e.g. if the formation calls for a DM, a 2 star DM might be in the line-up over a 6 star AM), whereas we can choose to place players in any slot regardless of position. Knowing this, I want to create a greater challenge by forcing myself to do the same. It would be awesome if you could post a list of the positional requirements for each slot for each of the different formations, or even put it into the game itself.

I also want to second Cybil’s concerns. In fact, the duplication issue also extends to some of the “non-real” players; I also had a “non-real” player turn to <0 value after he was <250,000,000 for some time. Though not a deal breaker, these glitches are certainly very annoying as I progress through the game.

Lastly, for future versions of the game, it might be better if the match simulator would allow players to switch positions from the player list during the match, similar to what can be done in the "tactics" page. I know that I can drag the players around on the field, but it's difficult to get the dots to line up with the formation. This would make it more convenient to switch formations during a match.

Thank you very much for reading. Keep up the great work!

  17. Hello, I love the old UFM games and with what was pointed out above such as less injuries, more leagues, etc I thought this game was going to be even better. However, as I said in the games comments, the transfers seem very buggy. I was Man Utd, had a bit of cash, so I decided to buy Kaka from R Madrid. The 7 star Midfielder seemed like a good buy until I tried playing him. After he came to the club I was dissapointed to see he had turned into a 3 star Defender. Not what I paid +20 million pound for. But sadly this wasn’t the first transfer dissapointment. I also bought Paul Robinson, the 9 star Goalkeeper, only for him to be worse then David De Gea, the 7 star Goalkeepr. This has put me off transfers and the game without transfers is boring. Hopefully you can fix this.

Also an idea for the next Sports Heads (after 2012/2013 comes out) is Sports Heads Football: European Club Edition or something like that. Basically a champions league version of the franchise.

Hope you fix the bugs though and make sure the next Sports Heads Football is as good as the last.

  18. Hey Chris,

We’ve gotten to the bottom of this. There are two (real) players called Kaka in the game, but they have the same Player ID. As a result, the worse defender (3 stars) sometimes replaces the Real Madrid midfielder. This is probably also causing duplicate players in the game. Fix soon!

  19. make a totally different website as this is blocked in school and please make sure it is a tottally different name unusual

  20. Why wont mine save I looked for save button but could not find one so assumed it was autosaving.
